God is Faithful
“God is faithful, who has called you into fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.” (1 Corinthians 1:9)
The dog* had waited ten years for the return of his master, hour after hour, day after day, week after week, year after year. Part of me believes such selfless, patient, loving devotion is impossible… but then I remember You.
You, Lord. You left heaven with all its majesty, it’s pure, perfect beauty to walk among us, willingly subjecting Yourself to an impure, filthy, murderous world for us…for me. And You gave Your body to be brutally beaten and tortured for us…for me…..
Now, sitting at the right hand of the Father You spend endless hours patiently, lovingly interceding for each of us. You know the end from the beginning; You know some of us prodigals will never return, and of those of us who do, You know none of us will ever really “get it right”. Still, You love us anyway. You intercede for us anyway… whispering Your faithful love into our hearts, guiding and directing our steps. You are at once the epitome of hope and faithfulness, of uncompromising, undivided love.
Your love and faithfulness boggle my mind. And though it seems impossible You have graciously shown us – through the undying faithfulness of a dog – that such love is not only possible but in You it exists, it is real, it is everlasting and it waits patiently for me.
