Changing Seasons
“Trust in and rely confidently on the Lord with all your heart And do not rely on your own insight or understanding….” (Proverbs 3:5, Amplified Bible)
Late September. Chilly. Pouring rain. The season is changing from the heat of Summer to the chill of Autumn. I’m not a fan of hot and humid; I’m not a fan of chill and gloom either. I’m not really a fan of change.
Yet, change is how You grow us.
Sometimes we approach change with joy: a new job, a new house, a new baby, a new season of life. As the onset of Autumn brings brilliant and beautiful reds, oranges and golds, so the beginning of some changes hold the promise of beauty. But just as the leaves turn to brown and die, pushing toward winter, so change often has a sad and stressful side.
You call us to remember that despite the changing seasons, You are constant, always faithful, never changing.
It’s through the stresses of change that we learn again that, yes, we can trust You. Through change You show us that in every season You are unchanging, You are reliable, You are faithful.
Help us remember, Lord, as we approach changes of season outside our windows or in our lives, that in You every season holds a harvest, a blessing we can only know when we allow You to sow Your Holy Spirit into our hearts and yield to the weeding and winnowing of our souls. Help us remember that when we lean on, rely upon, and trust in You, we will ultimately celebrate seasons of bountiful blessings.
